This roller coaster called life can make some days feel like a total drag. Those struggles are real and can often lead to our home becoming our happy place. If you’re a homebody, everything you need to strive and thrive is conveniently located in the comfort of your own home. There’s really no reason to leave. Need food? Pull up the Postmates app. Need a job? Work remotely. The limits are endless.
While we appreciate a home delivery service as much as the next person, sometimes it’s nice to get out, breathe in the fresh air and surround yourself with people whose company you enjoy. Now toss those pajamas in your hamper, throw on your favorite pair of jeans (or sweatpants — no judgment) and venture out into the great outdoors.
Here are some good options for outdoor activities that every homebody will love.
Zumba in the Park
Get that blood flowing with a nice run, some yoga, or even meditation. In fact, meditating is known to help improve energy and memory, while reducing anxiety and stress. The most relaxing part of it all? You can set up your yoga mat in your own backyard or at a local park!
If you’re looking to really step out of your comfort zone, try looking for Goat Yoga classes. Yes, we promise it’s a thing.
Take a Leisurely Walk
Taking a walk outside is an easy way to get moving and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. Listen to the leaves crinkling beneath you or the birds chirping above you — or tune it all out with your headphones and favorite podcast.
A simple outdoor stroll should not be discounted. Yes, it’s simple, but also effective. It’s a chance to clear your mind, soak in some much-needed vitamin D and get those steps in! But don’t forget about the SPF. Just because it’s a little chilly out doesn’t mean the UV rays aren’t out to play.
Stick Your Head Out the Window at the Drive-In
Take your usual Sunday movie night to the next level with a drive-in movie theater. You’ll be changing up the scenery but staying in the comfort of your own car. The hardest part of any movie is picking which one to watch. Netflix has movie options for days (quite literally). The nice part about a drive-in theater is that they pick the movie for you. And a lot of times it’s an iconic black-and-white film, starring someone like Audrey Hepburn or Ingrid Bergman.
While binging a good Netflix show late into the night sounds awesome, try something new like a drive-in movie! You’ll be chilling outside your house in no time.
Sip Chardonnay Under the Stars
A wine tasting will teach you everything there is to know about the grapes you’re sipping on. It’ll guide you through the various wine options offered. If you’re equally into a glass of sparkling rosé paired with another glass of dry malbec, hopefully the place will have many to choose from.
They may even sprinkle in some apps that compliment your selections — bonus! A smooth cabernet sounds absolutely delicious with a chunk of dark chocolate or slice of gouda.
Geocache Your Way to Some Treasure
If you’re wanting to get out of the house and explore but not sure where to start, Geocaching may be the activity for you!
Once you download the official geocaching app, you’ll be on your way to joining the world’s largest treasure hunt! Decide on the geocache you want to find, let the search begin! Geocaches can be all different items, sizes and shapes, so you never know what you might find.
The great thing about geocaching is there are treasures hidden almost everywhere, so you probably won’t have to travel too far from home to find one. The app logs how many you’ve found, making it an easy competition to start with your other homebody friends!
Marvel at the Heavens
You don’t have to buy a fancy telescope from Amazon to enjoy the nighttime sky. Find a quiet place, lie down on the ground and gaze at the countless stars up above.
You can try to spot those popular constellations, like the Big Dipper, the Little Bear or Orion’s Belt. There are even a few apps that can help identify all those celestial, weird looking (I mean otherworldly) things you’re staring at. All you have to do is place your camera on the spot you want to know more about. The app will take it from there.
Hide From the World for a While
Getting outside can be the refreshing boost of energy your body is craving. Though the outdoors may not have all the comforts of home, it can still be the perfect place for some self care.
Grab your favorite book (or the one you keep meaning to read), treat yourself to a special drink and get some “me” time in while reaping the benefits of being outside.
Stuff Your Face
Between the cheese, crackers and fruit, charcuterie boards are ideal for snacking. Not only can you customize them to satisfy all your cravings, but you can enjoy them anywhere. While charcuterie boards are normally enjoyed in the kitchen or placed perfectly on a coffee table, nothing is stopping you from getting a little more adventurous.
Try taking the assortment outside. You can set up a super comfy-cozy space with a blanket, pillows and some yummy food. Besides, who says you can’t bring a charcuterie board to the beach or your local park? Sounds like some quality Insta pics to me, especially if you turn the salami into those cool flower-looking things.
Even for homebodies, it’s important to get out and explore the outdoors. Remember, you don’t need to adventure into the mountains to get a breath of fresh air. Your own backyard can make a great destination for a picnic, some yoga or even a movie night. But don’t forget to take advantage of your local parks and outdoor activities your community may host throughout the year.
Who knows, you may just discover a whole new world!
